LEGO Dimensions starring Doctor Who
If you like Doctor Who and video games, then you owe it to yourself and the universe to give LEGO Dimensions a try.
LEGO Dimensions is one of those new generation games where it’s part game, part toy. It comes with a “portal” that you plug into your game system, then you buy characters which sit on top of the portal and those characters are magically in the game.
Yes, it’s a big money grab. And yes, it works. But it’s so much fun. The best/worst part is that all the characters they’re releasing for the game are aimed at parents and not kids. So any adult who tells you they bought it for the kids is lying and can’t wait to go home and play with toys.
Right out of the box, the game comes with the portal, Batman (with Batmobile), Wildstyle, and Gandalf. That’s enough to get you going, and even enough to have a little fun with Doctor Who. However, if you want to truly get into the TARDIS, you need to buy the Doctor Who pack.
This pack comes with the Doctor (12th), the TARDIS, and K-9. Along with having the supercool figures, it opens a separate part of the game with a Doctor Who storyline.
Right about now you’re probably thinking the game sounds pretty cool, but you’re not sold. Keep reading.
Even though the set comes with the 12th Doctor, in the game you can change to be any iteration of the Doctor. And when you die, you regenerate as the next Doctor in sequence!
The TARDIS, which is super fun to fly around crashing into stuff, seems like a simple vehicle at first. But then you can go to the inside of the TARDIS (which is bigger.) And here’s another super cool touch: whichever Doctor you are at the time changes the appearance of the TARDIS! Cool, right?! I know!
Add in the optional character pack that includes Cyberman and a Dalek, and this game is much bigger on the inside.
I love this game. My kids love this game. My wife—who doesn’t play video games—even picks up the controller once in a while.
Have you played? If so, do you love it? If not, what are you waiting for?
